inSTEP Magazine is a quarterly printed trade publication for Fred Astaire Dance Studios. Content is curated to educate, entertain and inspire the students in the chain of franchised studios across North America and abroad. As Creator, Editor and Designer of this magazine, I was responsible for ideation, reporting, photography, layout, pre-press, print production management and mailing.
From concept through delivery:
Design of themed event promotions & printed materials (posters, flyers, tickets, programs, table tents, event signage, digital ads and more)…
Prepare pre-press; coordinate with print vendors on stock and color correction, proofing, etc., manage production process, and arrange for delivery to event venues
High Mesa Botanicals is a start-up business in the American Southwest. This client needed a logo, business card, web page banner, label designs and product images.
This comprehensive project required me to work hand-in-hand with the client and the production team at the exhibit-building firm.
The client needed creative solutions for displaying vast collections of text, images and objects that told their story. Direct print panels, cut vinyl, transparent Plexiglas and custom-build displays were some of the methods and materials used.
Once the client approved all wall layouts and artwork, I then created detailed maps and illustrated instructions for the production team to arrange the graphics onto the areas.
Included in this gallery are photos from the opening of the permanent exhibition along with the wall layouts, representing about half the total exhibit.
Collaborating with the Paper Engineer, I designed the artwork and specialized in pre-press for 3-dimensional marketing pieces including: die lines, knock-outs, folds, scores, tabs, glue points, targeted varnish treatments, and attention to directional art and copy on the press sheet in relationship to the finished product.
Birds and nature’s tiny details capture my heart and eye
Multi-media, painted collages are created with patterned and watercolor papers cut into shapes and layered on canvas in a balanced design.
Some patterns are hand painted using watercolor masking techniques; occasional images are cut from antique field guides on birds and plants or vintage sheet music. Mandala outlines are designed with Adobe Illustrator, printed on watercolor paper, and painted before applying to the canvas.
Once components are affixed, ink doodles are added, and a layer of watercolor paint gives depth to the piece.
Surface details of 3D paint and tiny glitter accents add the final touches.
